About

This blog is a forum for music therapists to explore music therapy theory, practice, and advocacy across the spectrum of end-of-life (EOL) and palliative care settings and contexts. Started and edited by four primary contributors from diverse clinical and philosophical backgrounds, featured and guest authors regularly contribute to help expand this blog’s scope across the fuller landscape of EOL and palliative care music therapy.

Collectively, we are committed to embracing the diverse backgrounds of all contributors, both authors and commenters alike, in efforts to provide the community with rich, non-dogmatic perspectives that embrace music therapy as a music-centered, relational, and empowering practice of wellness.

While we strive to be inclusive and non-restrictive, we pledge to never publish an entry that removes music therapists as the experts in music therapy, removes patients or their families as the experts on themselves, decontextualizes music therapy as a field wherein dynamic musicking becomes secondary to outcomes or sound-based interventions, or fails to maintain and sustain the dignity of our patients.

Our goals are to promote professional development, theoretical growth, and clinical expertise in the ultimate interest of providing the highest standards of comprehensive and ethical care for the patients we are privileged to work with.

Thank you for taking the time to share in this journey with us, and please lend us your voice at any stop along the way!

  1. Congratulations on your excellent blog.

We invite all American Music Therapy Association MT-BC music therapists to join our Canadian Association for Music Therapy MTAs in a community-of-practice space supporting palliative care music therapy. Sponsored by the the Canadian Virtual Hospice (virtualhospice.ca), we are housed on the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer platform.

Our MT PallNet Collaborative Group Space has the capacity to share documents (referral and assessment forms) and a bibliography wiki that links to journal abstracts and publishers’ websites.

We invite you to join us for full or guest access: cvh.mtpallnet@gmail.com.
